Tom’s Quick Tip: Filters

In my photo bag that goes with me everywhere are two filter pouches holding a variety of filters.  However, of all my filters the two I use the most are my circular polarizer and a graduated neutral density.  A polarizer allows me to add contrast to skies, saturating the blues and removing most of the glare. But I don’t just use it for skies; I use it to enhance most of my scenic photos as shown below.

When I have a scene like the Saguaros below I also add my graduated neutral density filter to darken the sky without affecting the entire scene. I carry both a 2stop and a 4stop graduated neutral density filters that will cover almost every situation.
